Our transport can fit in folded wheelchairs but we do not have specialist wheelchair facilities fitted at present. We do have carers who can help with moving in and out if needed.
5. In your brochure etc you say you can not accommodate people who display very challenging behaviour what do you mean?
Firstly our team are very experienced in caring for people with dementia, however, we are NOT a secure unit for the mentally ill and we do not have that degree of skill/experience on hand at our social centres. By very challenging behaviour we mean people who are very violent to themselves and maybe others, people who take illegal drugs and people who demonstrate explicit sexual behaviours.
6. Do you cater for special diets?
On our initial discussions we will endeavour to find out your food preferences/special diets so that our cook knows beforehand what to prepare.
7. What about health & safety/food safety?
All health & safety legislation appropriate to our day centre is met including food safety regulations. All our cooks are CIEH trained.
8. How many people can come to your house?
We can accommodate up to 20 people per session. Not everyone will be in our house, some guests maybe out on trips, some in the gardens etc. We do have six different activity/sitting rooms.
9. My mum wanders around, will she be safe?
All our boundaries are safe and secure and we do have several sensors dotted around the grounds. We also have plenty of ‘companions’ to wander with and lots of things to occupy mum so she may not want to ‘wander’ as much.
10. I see on your website you have a dog, my dad dislikes dogs, will the dog be around?
Bruce the family pet will only be around with people who like dogs-he has plenty of places to go where he can be away from any guests who are afraid of dogs. Bruce has his own secure place.
11. Are your staff able to help with guests who maybe incontinent?
All our support workers are experienced carers as well as ‘dementia stars’ so this is not a problem.
12. Can your staff administer medication?
Yes, according to our policies and procedures. We would prefer medication to be in ‘blister packs’ but we are happy to discuss other options on an individual basis. Our staff can only administer prescribed medicines.
13. What if I come to your centre and I do not want to stay because I do not like it there?
Everyone can come and spend a free session with us to see if they like us!
